**SETTING THE SCENE:**

So far in this discussion series, we have been fortunate to hear about the fundamentals of drug approval and some concerns regarding changes at the FDA ushered in by the 21st Century Cures Act, but we have yet to hear industry's perspective. During the passage of this new law, there were roughly 1,300 lobbyists in Washington representing drug companies, universities and patient groups, all of which had certain priorities that were sometimes at odds with each other. So what do venture capitalists and drug company executives actually think about FDA policies? Is the FDA too cautious? Does the FDA prevent too many good drugs from getting to patients quickly and cheaply? What does the drug industry want in a new FDA commissioner? Are they pleased or concerned about the massive deregulation promised by the new administration? Is the popular criticism of the drug industry justified?

Join us and our guest John Freund, MD, MBA for a lively discussion on these issues!
